If you are selected for an interview, your application will also be read by your interviewers and the members of the Telluride Association committee responsible for making the final selection and placement. If you are selected, your factotums will also be given your application and essays, and these may also be shared with your seminar faculty.Going into TASP, I had no idea about what I wanted to do in the future — I even wrote one of my essays about that! I suppose I wasn’t looking for a clear-cut answer to my career questions at TASP; rather, I expected to have my eyes opened to something new or to ideas I hadn’t though about in certain ways.The essays can be the most important components of your application. It’s a chance to add depth to something that is important to you and tell the admissions committee more about your background or goals. Test scores only tell part of your story, and we want to know more than just how well you work. We want to see how you actually think.
Your application will be judged not only on your demonstrated talents and abilities, but also on your potential for future development and how TASP can contribute to that development. We hope you find the experience of writing the essays and short answers personally challenging and educationally rewarding.For the essay about picking a passage from a book and analyzing it: Is this essay basically a critical lens essay? How formal must it be? Should formal academic tone be followed or can we actually refer to ourselves? We're supposed to support our arguments with specific evidence, right? Is writing this essay like writing a (longer) college essay?
Given that TASP is such a crapshoot, I hold no expectations of actually getting in, but the essays were actually really fun to write and it felt like a good crash course in writing college application essays.
